Tenkasi is a municipality under the Tirunelveli District of the state of Tamil Nadu. The area is located towards the north of the city. It is the biggest town in the district of Tirunelveli and is situated at the foothills of Western Ghats. The area is surrounded by neighbourhoods like Courtallam.
Tenkasi is connected to other cities of the state via a railways and bus services. The Tenkasi Railway Station has trains such as the Pothigai Express passing through connecting it to Shencottah and Chennai. Local trains passing through here connect the area to Madurai, Tirunelveli and Shencottah. Long distance buses are operated by SETC and other private concerns. They connect Tenkasi to areas like Kollam, Bangalore, Chennai, Tirupati, Guruvayoor, Puducherry and Coimbatore.
The area is home to the Viswanathar Temple and Ulagamman Temple which is why there is demand for Tenkasi real estate among devotees who want to maintain a second home in the area.
